Submission fees are to be paid through our website under Event Fees. If you are not able to pay online, you may arrange alternative methods of payment with the events coordinator before the submission deadline.

  • We consider a student someone who is attending a creditable post-secondary school (ex. Alberta University of the Arts, Red Deer Polytechnic, etc.) and/or currently taking classes at a studio for 5 years or less. Eligible students must also complete a volunteer shift. If you cannot complete a volunteer shift, regular submission fees apply. $15 for APA members, $25 for non-members.

  • Please refer to each exhibition individually for more details.

Items must be a minimum 75% ceramic to be considered.

Submitted items must be available for sale with APA retaining 30% commission.

Only finished work will be accepted. Pieces can not be altered, fired or re-fired after submission.

Submitted work should be of good quality and be free from any defects including cracks or broken elements.

The APA has the ability to make any final decisions (if the item is accepted or rejected) when the item is dropped off. If we find that the item has defects, like cracks, the APA reserves the right to reject the item and withhold it from the show without notice.

  • Submitted work should be of good quality and be free from any defects including cracks or broken elements.

Sculptural work may have cracks and flaws such as glaze crawling and crazing, but these flaws must be intentional and clearly defined as part of the piece and in the written submission.

The APA has the ability to make any final decisions (if the item is accepted or rejected) when the item is dropped off. If we find that the item has defects, like cracks, and it was not clearly defined as part of the piece in the written submission, the APA reserves the right to reject the item and withhold it from the show without notice.

  • Functional Items must be food safe and fit for its intended function.

Sculptural items are not functional and do not need to be food safe. However, this category is not meant to be a fall back in the event that the work was originally intended to be functional but a flaw has limited that function.

Please refer to Stein Show Requirements for submitting steins.

  • Wheel thrown: 70% of the item must be made on the wheel.

Handbuilt: 70% of the item must be handbuilt.

  • Due to the fragile nature of ceramics and the need to transport work between multiple locations, extreme care must be taken by the artist to securely and safely pack their own work.

Sturdy boxes lined with foam are suggested.

Each piece of work should be wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside a box (again preferably foam-lined).

Each item must be individually packaged and include the appropriate ArtCall label.

When shipping items, individual boxes may be packaged together into a larger box labeled "Fragile”.

Keep in mind that items may be relocated several times.

The APA is not responsible for any damage or loss. Artists are responsible for their own insurance.

  • Since our jury process is conducted online, it is vital that your provide clear, crisp, clean, and accurate photos of your item from multiple angles.

We highly recommend that photos have a plain background, free from clutter, and be well lit with minimal shadows or harsh highlights.

  • Judges are asked to review the teapots on the following criteria:

Originality: Is there something fresh and new about the content? Is the work individual and/or personal in its approach?

Creative Expression: Is the piece memorable? Move you in an emotional or intellectual way? Challenge your thinking? Leave a lasting impression?

Technical Skill: Does the piece reflect high quality technical skill?

Surface Design: Interesting/Creative techniques used? Is the composition well considered?

Photo: Is there multiple photos of different angles of the teapot? Is there decent lighting? Photo is clear with little to no clutter in the background? Is the photo(s) in focus?

Stein Show

  • All steins submitted must be functional and hold at minimum 16oz.

Village Brewery provides a complimentary fill of beer in the stein to guests who purchase a stein.

Teapot Show

  • The Teapot Show puts an emphasis on teapots.

When submitting please only include photos of the teapot and price only the teapot.

If the teapot is part of a set you may contact the events team before the submission deadline and inquire if it is possible to display the tea set as a whole at the exhibition. Inquiries will be consulted on a case by case basis.
