The Teapot Show - Call for Submissions

This exhibition and sale is open to Alberta Residents and APA Associate Members who may reside outside Alberta.

Application Opens on November 21st at 10am


Welcome to the juried Alberta Potters' Association APA Teapot Show 2026. Please apply with any teapot, wheel thrown or handbuilt, functional or sculptural, to our exhibition! To be considered, work must be minimum 75% ceramic.
You may submit up to 5 pieces. Submission fee is per-entry, non-refundable, and due before submissions close. Please pay the submission fee via our website before the submission deadline. 

This is a juried show, and works submitted are not guaranteed to be accepted. There will be three jurors who will form our jury committee. Teapots that have flaws, cracks or ill-fitting lids will not be accepted into the show.

Judges are asked to review the teapots on the following criteria:

Originality: Is there something fresh and new about the content? Is the work individual and/or personal in its approach?
Creative Expression: Is the piece memorable? Move you in an emotional or intellectual way? Challenge your thinking? Leave a lasting impression?
Technical Skill: Does the piece reflect high quality technical skill?
Surface Design: Interesting/Creative techniques used? Is the composition well considered?
Photo: Is there multiple photos of different angles of the teapot? Is there decent lighting? Photo is clear with little to no clutter in the background? Is the photo(s) in focus?


All teapots entered into the show must be for sale.
The consignment split for sold items is 30% to the APA and 70% to the artist. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at NVRLND. arts foundation in Calgary, Alberta on May 1st from 6-9pm as it is open to the public for our show.

Winners are expected to be at the show at 7pm to receive their award.

The four judged categories are: (1) Best Wheel Thrown Teapot (2) Best Handbuilt Teapot (3) Best Student Teapot and (4) People's Choice. Prizes for each of these categories will be given out during the show if the winner is in attendance or mailed out after the show. Prizes TBA.

Wheel Thrown Teapots: Majority of the teapot is wheel thrown. Handbuilt attachments and off wheel alterations are allowed.

Handbuilt Teapots: The teapot is made not using the wheel.

Student Teapots: Teapots can be wheel thrown or handbuilt but is made by a student. Please read on our website about student qualifications.

Application closes February 9th at 11:59pm.

Submission Fees:
Current APA members - $15 per submission
Non-Members - $25 per submission
Students - no fee but must complete at least 1 volunteer shift for the event. To submit as a student you must be attending the Alberta University of the Arts and/or currently taking classes at a studio and have been making ceramics for 5 years or less. If you are unable to complete the volunteer shift you may pay the submission fee and still have your teapot considered under the student category.

Artists will be notified of their acceptance or rejection to the show by March 6th. Physical items must be mailed or delivered by April 17th, 2026 for a final in person jury. Items must arrive packed appropriately in a box ready for transport.

Call for Submissions: The Stein Show

The Alberta Potters' Association invites you to apply for our 2025 juried exhibition, The Stein Show. Our exhibition will take place on September 27th, 2025 at Village Brewery in Calgary, Alberta. All Steins entered into the show must be for sale. The consignment split for sold items is 30% to the APA and 70% to the artist. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at Village Brewery as it is open to the public from 5-9 pm. Winners are expected to be at the show at 7pm to receive their awards.

Please apply with any Stein, functional or sculptural, wheel thrown or handbuilt to our exhibition. To be considered, work must be minimum 75% ceramic. This call is open to all clay creators no matter where you reside. 

Submissions open May 30th and the deadline to apply is August 15th at 11:59pm.

This is a juried exhibition. You may submit up to 5 pieces. Not all submissions are guaranteed entry to the show. There will be three jurors forming our jury committee. The Jury committee will be released at a later date.

Call for Entries - Calgary Public Library Show

Deadline: Friday, September 2nd, 2016

Dates: October 3rd – 14th, 2016

"Explorations" presents the work of members of the Alberta Potters' Association and demonstrates how they explore the infinite possibilities of working with clay. Along with the display of work, demonstrations are a key component of this exhibition. They will be held each weekday of the exhibition, from 11:30-1:00. Artists wishing to display work in the exhibition must participate in the demonstrations. Artists will receive free parking and an honorarium for their participation. Sales are not permitted, however, artists' contact information will be supplied with their work. Open to functional and sculptural ceramics. One submission only. 

Submission requirements:

  • APA Member
  • Artist Statement (max 1 page)
  • Artist Bio (max 1 page)
  • Image of work to submit for show
    • Work must fill 21"x21"x24" space
    • Submission can include sets or multiple pieces
    • Please indicate scale in photo
  • Demo-Day Availability 
  • Demo Idea (slab-building, pinch pot, moulds, etc.)
